Precast/Prestressed Girder Help

Start of Tutorial 6

  1. Select Open from the File menu to open the File > Open dialog. Browse to the examples sub-folder and select Tutor6.csl and click Open. This will open a simple-span I-Girder beam bridge data file.

    Project Tab

  2. Click the Beam tab and select beam 2 from the Beam list. This is the beam for which we will do the load rating. The Strand Pattern for the beam has already been designed, and will show up in the cross-section view and elevation view as shown in Figure 2 .

    Beam Tab

  3. Click Rebar Pattern to open the Rebar Patterns dialog. In this screen we can input a shear reinforcement schedule as shown in the problem data, and entered in the screen below. Use the buttons on the left to insert a new row, to delete a row or to copy it.

Rebar Pattern Screen - Stirrups Tab

  4. Click Parameters, and add the appropriate rating vehicles for all three Rating Level - Design, Legal and Permit Level as shown in the screen below. Select which options to consider for Rating by checking the individual Rating Options. You can also adjust the individual factors for the rating equations on this screen.

    Rating Parameters Screen

  5. In this example if you click on Permit Factor link from Rating Parameters Dialog, a legend will show you the table from Article 6.4.5.4.2 from LRFR Manual as shown below. In this way you can manually input the value of 1.5 for Permit Factor or leave the program to automatically compute. Precast/Prestressed Girder automatically computes the factors from Rating Parameters but you can also input your own factors.

    Rating Parameters Screen

o close this legend, click on the table. For this example, we will stay with the defaults, and click OK to close the Rating Parameters dialog.

  6. Click Rating Results and Precast/Prestressed Girder will start the live load analysis and perform all necessary computations to come up with the rating factors for the parameters and trucks selected under the rating parameters screen. At the end of the run, the rating report is displayed on the screen as shown below.

    Rating Results (Enhanced Viewer)

After viewing the results, you can print them or close the results window, and save your file and exit. This completes Tutorial 6. To close the program click File > Exit.
